Three questions for...Udo Schäfer, Head of Outputmanagement, ITERGO Informationstechnologie GmbH

Interview series in which we ask our employees, customers and partners about Kern solutions and products. They are each asked three questions to highlight their view of current topics. We continue with three questions about the Kern 3200 for Udo Schäfer, Head of Outputmanagement, ITERGO Informationstechnologie GmbH

What do you particularly like about the Kern 3200?
Flexibility combined with performance. In the past, a multi-format system was often a compromise in terms of the inserting performance of the individual formats. With an output of over 20,000 cycles, this system is a real all-rounder. There are also significant improvements in terms of handling and user-friendliness. Reliability and the strong service team continue to be a particular strength of the Kern brand.

What are the key benefits and how do employees handle the Kern 3200?
The automation of the inserting process is certainly one of the biggest advantages. The changeover to other formats is fully automatic and therefore offers a decisive advantage in terms of reducing set-up times. Processing smaller quantities of a different format "just in between" is no longer a problem at all. As we have been using Kern inserting systems exclusively in the production environment for years, it was also easy for the employees to familiarize themselves with the Kern 3200. Despite the new layout of the system's control unit, the intuitive operation of the system was very successful, so that the integration of the system was extremely uncomplicated.

How quickly was the system ready for use after installation?
The Kern 3200 flash was installed at ITERGO as part of a pilot project. After the system was installed, the first test run was carried out in the week of delivery. In my opinion, this fact particularly demonstrates the strength of the system and the associated professional approach of the technical team. For a system that is already established on the market, this is quite an achievement. With a system in "pilot" status, it was a little surreal to produce the first programmes so quickly. Of course, there were still one or two challenges during the pilot phase, but that is also part of a pilot phase. Optimisation measures were quickly identified and implemented promptly. I think the fact that around 9 million consignments were produced on the Kern 3200 in the first year, including the pilot phase, speaks for itself.

Active in the field of document management for around 35 years. Even in my private life, the topic of document management has not let go of me, which is reflected in my voluntary work on the DOXNET board. But of course there is also a life besides documents. A certain inclination towards speed in the automotive sector, which is reduced to driving cars in the low 3-digit registration range, can certainly be described as a hobby.
